This programme is specifically designed to provide students with:
The students, upon completion of their study, should attain the following outcomes:
DEGREE YEAR 1
In the first year, students will grasp the basic principles of engineering in areas such as Instrumentation and Measurement, Engineering Design, Engineering Materials, and Manufacturing Technology. The modules also provide essential academic skills to meet employer demands, along with IT and entrepreneurship foundations. Important skills for managing activities and independent learning are also introduced.
Common Modules:
DEGREE YEAR 2
In the second year, students begin to specialise in Mechanical Engineering with modules like Strength of Materials, Fluid Mechanics, Safety in Oil and Gas Engineering, Formation Evaluation and Well Logging, and Petroleum Geochemistry.
Common Modules:
DEGREE YEAR 3
The third year focuses on specialised knowledge and skills in areas such as Control Engineering, Venture Building, Mechanics of Machines, Machine Design, Industrial Automation, Microprocessor Systems & Embedded Software, Advanced Manufacturing Technology, and Computer Aided Engineering. Elective modules include Machine Vision and Intelligence, Gas Engineering, and Enhanced Oil Recovery. This year enhances the ability to apply relevant engineering skills with critical thinking and analysis. Independent learning continues in all modules.
Common Modules:
Minor/Extension Pathway (Choose 1 in 2nd Semester of Year 3): Choose 1 module from Minor Pathway OR Extension Pathway as described in the table below.
INTERNSHIP (16 weeks) Students will undertake an Internship/Industrial Training for a minimum period of 16 weeks to prepare them for a smooth transition from the classroom to the working environment.
DEGREE YEAR 4
In the final year, engineering modules focus on necessary industry applications and technological skills for employment post-graduation. Personal and professional development, technical capability, and the ability to innovate, generate, and manage new ideas are enhanced. Students will deliver several Engineering Projects demonstrating critical thinking, analysis, and solution development skills to enhance employability.
Common Modules:
Minor/Extension Pathway (Continuation): Choose 1 module from Minor Pathway OR Extension Pathway as a continuation from the module selected in Year 3 Semester 2 as described in the table below.
MECHANICAL ENGINEERING MINOR/EXTENSION PATHWAYS
APU emphasises employment sustainability. The range of minors and extensions allows students to explore engineering in greater depth (extensions) or explore broader multidisciplinary fields (minors). Successful completion of either pathway ensures students can embark on rewarding engineering careers.
Minor Pathway – Gain breadth of knowledge:
Extension Pathway – Expand depth of knowledge:
MQA Compulsory Subjects:
(*All students are required to successfully complete these modules as stipulated by the Malaysian Qualification Agency)
