Course Overview

Students taking the Diploma in Mass Communication learn to become professionals who are able to apply media and communication knowledge and practical skills in roles within various media-related industries, such as journalism, public relations, advertising, and broadcasting.

The Diploma in Mass Communication programme includes modules that train students to master essential skills such as handling radio and television equipment. They will also get involved in content production processes such as directing, scripting, and video editing. By mastering these skills, our students are equipped to take on a wide range of roles in radio, TV, and other media platforms.

Taking into account the latest trends and technological advancements in the global communications industry, students must be equipped with a solid foundation in mass communication theories. They are taught to critically examine the function of mass communication in society.

Programme Learning Outcome (PLO)

  • PLO1: Able to acquire and apply knowledge of media and communications in media related industries.
  • PLO2: Able to conduct media and communications research and identify solutions for the decisions to be taken in the various communications specialisation.
  • PLO3: Able to demonstrate practical skills in media and communications related fields such as journalism, public relations, broadcasting, and advertising.
  • PLO4: Able to project interpersonal skills in both written and oral forms.
  • PLO5: Able to communicate effectively and express social skills in a team environment.
  • PLO6: Able to demonstrate the ability of using hardware and software related to journalism, advertising, broadcasting, public relation and, etc.
  • PLO7: Able to analyse and generate numerical diagrams in scientific research in the field of media and communications.
  • PLO8: Able to initiate effort to address concerns on the social, cultural and global issues, and be responsible towards environment issues facing media practitioners in their areas of professional activity.
  • PLO9: Able to develop various soft skills to cater the industrial demands in media and communications related fields and to prepare for lifelong learning.
  • PLO 10: Able to self-motivate and enhance entrepreneurship skills for career development.
  • PLO 11: Able to understand and commit professionally, ethically, and with humane responsibility in line with media ethics.

Entry Requirements

1Pass in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or its equivalent with a minimum 3 credits including English; OR
2Pass in Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) with a minimum Grade B in 3 subjects including English; OR
3Pass in Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM) Level 3 KKM in a related field and credit in English in SPM; OR
4Pass in Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) or its equivalent with a minimum of Grade C (CGPA 2.00) in one subject and credit in English in SPM; OR
5Other equivalent qualifications recognised by the Government of Malaysia.

* For Diploma and Advanced Diploma, International student must score 5.0 for International English Language Test System (IELTS) or equivalent.
